Who should get carotid endarterectomy?
Explanation:
Patients who are symptomatic with a TIA or a Stroke should be screened for carotid stenosis. If they have a stenosis of >60 % on the affected side, then they should get an endarterectomy.
Those patients who are asymptomatic and have such degrees of stenosis are not clear cut candidates for surgery because of controversy in the benefit of the procedure.
