What is INR?

International normalized ratio - a concept that developed in Europe was initially developed to simplify the control of anticoagulation and develop a standard reporting method inspite of reagents of different potencies. Each reagent batch has a number that is like a coefficient. The time it takes for the test sample to clot is matched against the coefficient and a number is reported. This is the INR.
