Lymphangitis: a young girl with a rusted nail injury to the hand   started to get chills and low grade fever 2 days after the injury. She presented with this line going up her arm. Commonly a result of Staph or streptococcal infection, it should be a red flag to indicate rapid spread of infection and should be treated aggressively with antibiotics and elevation of the affected limb.

When associated with an abscess, it should be instantly drained.

Lymphangitis (shown a above) is commonly associated with lymphadenitis. It should be treated immediately. IV antibiotisc are the most reasonable option. Hot and moist compresses are also used as an adjunct to treatment.
