Scroll down this box to see the answer. This patient has Zoster in the distribution of the ophthalmic branch of the trigeminal. This is an emergency situation for the ophthalmologist and these patients MUST be referred to an ophthalmologist for monitoring the possible dendritic ulcer. Steroids are contra-indicated .Treatment includes antiviral agents - both topically and systemically (Famciclovir/Valaciclovir - remember that Valaciclovir is to be avoided in immunosuppressed patients e.g. HIV)
