Recognize the manifestations of osteoarthritis.

Explanation:

Osteo arthritis  is a disease that typically attacks the elderly. OA of the knee and wrist are related to obesity. Classically the pain is worst at the end of the day when the joints have already been stressed.

On examination there is Crepitus in the joint, Heberden's nodes at the DIP joints  and Bouchard's nodes at PIP joints in the hand.

X-ray typically shows loss of joint space (due to erosion of cartilage), Sclerosis of the two opposing joint surfaces(eburnation) and lipping/osteophyte formation.

treatment consists of Pain relief (Acetaminophen/Paracetamol), weight loss for knees and wrists, If there is a flare- use NSAIDs.
