Answer to Q8: b

This patient is a diabetic with altered sensorium. The top possibilities are Hypoglycemia, DKA & HHNK (hyperosmolar hyperglycemic non-ketotic coma). The entity that could be lethal over a matter of minutes is Hypoglycemia. The others can be treated over a period of hours. The most important test in this situation is Glucometer blood glucose level which will give us a reading within a matter of a minute. If found hypoglycemic one should immediately inject 50 cc of 50% glucose. This patient was not found to be hypoglycemic - she had a blood glucose reading of 460.
