Know the management of MRSA and VRE positive patients.
Explanation
Patients who are carriers but not infected by these need not be treated. VRE carriers need to be isolated for now but MRSA patients do not need isolation. This may also change for VRE carriers but not yet.
Can a nurse taking care of a VRE patient go to another VRE patient's room without changing her gown and gloves?
Guidelines say YES but I had asked this question to an ID specialist but the answer was not clear. Enterococcus fecium is 10 times resistant by MIC compared to E. fecalis therefore if there are two different VREs then certainly cross infection should not be allowed. Unfortunately there are no guidelines for this.
