Note the scarlatiniform rash. It is mediated by ERYTHROTOXIN( an exotoxin) from Streptococci. It is usually associated with Strep. Pharyngitis. It can also occur with skin infections. Treatment of choice for strep is Penicillin V. If patient's compliance may be an issue, Injection Benzathine PCN is used. Erythro/Azithro/Clarithro can be used in patients allergic to PCN.
