Rcognize a case of Eruptive Xanthoma and check cholesterol: A finding that you may rarely see clinically. Due to its great clinical significance, it comes up frequently on tests.  It is associated with EXTREMELY high cholesterol. Thus in a young patient with a rash that has a reddish base but a yellowish cap, check cholesterol. This patient has already been on treatment with high dose of statins and a resin for hypertriglyceridemia. He is currently enrolled in a trial at NIH.
